Our school year is quickly coming to an end and we are excited about all that we have accomplished. This school year our students have experienced a great deal of testing from our kindergarten to fifth grade students. Last month our fifth grade students tested throughout the month as they took the computer-based LEAP test. Currently, our third through fifth grade students are taking the paper-based LEAP test. In the next couple of weeks, our kindergarten through fifth grade students will be taking their end of the year district-created post-assessments.
Our teachers and students have been working hard this school year. I only wish that all of the positive things that happen inside our school building are having a lasting impact on our students. All year we have been on a “Drive to 75”, and to achieve this goal, we have implemented many things. For example, our third through fifth grade students participated in Title I tutoring. Most recently, we held our Family Literacy Night where our families had an opportunity to interact with the teachers and the students. We had a great time, and we know that your parental involvement is making a difference in our students’ success.
As we near the end of the school year, we have our end of the year programs scheduled for our kindergarten and fifth grade students. We also have field trips planned, Spring Fling is coming up soon, and we are preparing for field day. More importantly, as you begin to make plans for your child’s summer, make sure you continue to keep your child intellectually engaged and challenged in addition to getting him/her involved in some physical activities.
Last but not least, I would like to acknowledge and thank The Waggaman Community Foundation for making a generous donation to Cherbonnier/Rillieux Elementary School. The Waggaman Community Foundation made a donation in hopes of helping the students in the Waggaman and Avondale communities. We are very grateful and appreciative for the support, and we plan to use the funds to ensure our students have a wonderful educational experience for the remainder of this school year and beyond. We are looking forward to an exciting close to the school year and an adventurous summer break!
